We all know that property taxes in the New York/ New Jersey area are sky high. For small businesses and builders, property taxes can be a drain on profits, increasing every year with little to show for it. Property taxes can be a big problem on properties that require land use approvals, where there may be a delay between the purchase of the building and its ultimate repurposing. There is a process to follow to reduce your property taxes. We will outline how to evaluate whether a property tax appeal is available, how to process that appeal, and what to expect in this process.
The land use regulatory system in NJ is one of the most difficult in America. Ordinances are often outdated and out of sync with the market. However, as a developer builder, you just can’t ignore zoning standards. We will provide tips on what to review, how to best and most efficiently proceed with land use applications and what you should do if you receive a Notice of Violation or stop work order.
Recent regulatory amendments for the construction industry have changed the rules as to when a person can be properly classified as an independent contractor, rather than an employee.
